Not As Good As A Sharp Stick In The Eye

What if I told you

Andrew O’Hehir, in yet another article which dismisses the possibility of a Bernie Presidency, wrote:

“As Sanders’ most ‘roid-raged and testosterone-fueled supporters will ultimately admit, Hillary Clinton is vastly preferable as president to any possible Republican, semi-lovable Rust Belt New Ager John Kasich included.”

O’Hehir Article

I have never taken steroids. And, since I am rapidly approaching retirement age, my Killerstestosterone levels have dipped considerably. Maybe that’s why I do NOT admit that Hillary would be better than any of the Republican maniacs currently vying to be CEO of Amerika. As sick as it may sound, I prefer the pitchforks and burning torches which will undoubtedly infest America should one of these Republican nincompoops be elected or illegally installed, to the soft, comforting blue propaganda blanket that will descend over fuzzy headed, smug Hillary supporters as they bask in their belief that electing a female was all that really mattered. Hillary will put all the Starbucks-and-fine-white-wine crowd back to sleep, which, in my opinion, is far worse than any open rebellion, or even a self-righteous Drumpfshirt uprising. Nothing short of extreme discomfort will get those who mistakenly think of themselves as being “Lefties” up off their comfortable, upholstered, Häagen-Dazs-bloated asses and into the streets. I say bring on the farm implement-wielding, angry douchebags.

Chomsky on TerrorismDrumpf or Cruz’s election will bring horror back home to America, the horror which Hillary would have directed solely against innocent citizens in the Middle East. If the Clinton Family takes over again, emotionally infantile Americans will, one mo’ tahm, be thoroughly shielded from the terror their very own tax dollars inflict on women and children in parts of the world whose names they can’t pronounce or even read. Democrats only protest Republican war mongers, and I am thoroughly disgusted with all the Democrats who could not care less that Obama and his flying bomb toys are responsible for almost as much death and destruction as Darth Cheney and Dim Son. The cowardly ostriches who refer to themselves as patriots need a good, strong whiff of the huge piles of imperialist/neoliberal/neocon excrement we have sprayed all over the face of Mother Earth, the down home, American-made stinking dung to which we euphemistically refer as “foreign policy”.

A good friend of mine offered the following observation:

digyourgrave“What you’re advocating is the election of two dangerous people. You don’t think Trump would be more bellicose and hair-trigger than Hillary Clinton in international issues? Cruz thinks he’s the portal to the End Times. By advocating for a Republican you’re also throwing the Supreme Court to the right for the next 30 years. Goodbye, Roe, unions, privacy and whatever else GOP-controlled state legislatures can bring to a fight. You’re insisting on anarchy and fascism if your (and my) preferred candidate doesn’t get the nomination.”

Despite having respect for my friend’s opinions, I still think it’s a matter of degree. Given her track record, it’s a good bet that Hillary will Bloody Iraqi Childplacate her groupies just long enough to make them believe she really is “On Our Side”, and then go back to quietly fucking her constituency by making nice with the banker boys, just as Obama has been doing. Meanwhile, the “Everything is Fine as it Is” crowd hunkers down for another four- or eight-year nappy, the banks and corporations get richer, we bomb a few more countries, kill a few thousand more children and wrongly accused inmates of Guantanamo and countless other, nameless black sites, the Queen hands out a few more drilling rights to BP, and all the sleepy fuzzies never notice. Kumbaya, you dumb motherfuckers, Kumbaya.

corrupt cocksuckersAs far as SCOTUS goes, both Alito and Roberts could have been blocked by the Dems, who instead chose to let each man serve for several decades. Teddy Kennedy and Company approved the installation of not one, but TWO staunch corporatists. Why should I trust that Hillary or any other corporate Democrat tool won’t do the exact same thing? Riddle me THAT one, Batman.

Trump and Cruz are both assholes, and, as much as I hate to admit it, many members of the military brass are not. If either bozo orders the military to commit war crimes, the military will refuse. Probably. But should the party of bloated pachyderms manage to pull off the governmental hat trick, it won’t matter which member of the Republican clowncar scores the goal. Each one is repugnant enough in his own right (sorry Carly) to force America into sitting up and listening. I honestly don’t think anything short of electing an openly Fascist theocrat or a repulsive, narcissistic rich boy will scare us enough to put our system of governance on the road to a long-term, sustainable fix. Unfortunately, American society needs to be broken and reset, and it’s going to hurt. A lot.Carlin American Dream

Perhaps I’m naïve in thinking this, but I believe that the spineless corporate press, despite their obvious tendency to whore themselves, overwhelmingly lean, albeit almost imperceptibly, to the left. If Trump or Cruz engages in either idiocy or Armageddon prep (or both), I doubt seriously that the entire mainstream press will pretend everything is just fine. I have enough remaining faith that the movement which Occupy and Bernie spawned will inspire the Trump-sized handful of MSNBC employees who are still capable of thinking for themselves (Rachel Maddow? Chris Hayes? Hello?), to wade successfully through whatever lunacy the Right Wing seeks to impose on the American people and report it accurately.

And yes, it will probably be a bit messy. Because eggs into omelets and all that.

Go Bernie.

The Kochs Told Me Global Warming is a Hoax

I recently stumbled across a website called BREAKING ALL THE RULES . It was immediately apparent that it was stridently Libertarian, but the writing was pretty good so I signed up for their weekly newsletter.

The first issue was interesting until I got to the part about their being climate change deniers, and, since I consider those people several sandwiches short of a picnic, I immediately cancelled my email subscription and let them know it was because they excoriated Obama (certainly reasonable) while saying nothing negative about the Bush Crime Family and their lawless escapades.

This is the exchange that followed. BATR’s responses are in bold.

What is inaccurate is your assessment. Have you read any of the BATR archive essays during the Bush administration?

You will not find anything positive said about W. As you know, the Newsletter is based upon a weekly theme on current topics.

Review the View from the Mount, Strappado Wrack and Global Gulag articles for Bush essay.

Use the search function to find them.

Thanks for the redirection, although the bit about Global Warming being a hoax is kind of a deal breaker for me, despite whatever you’ve got to say about Dim Son.

Americans areGlobal warming-global_warming_by_captain_planet the only people who have yet to accept the fact that we’ve managed to heat our own petri dish, pee in our own pool. If you pump heat into a closed system for more than a hundred years, regardless of its size, it gets hotter. It ain’t rocket science.

America is home to many of the major energy conglomerates, all of whom have a vested interest in maintaining our dependence on non-renewables. They and their business buddies also control most of the media in this country, and many, many Americans are television zombies who believe anything they see on the glass teat.

Is it a coincidence that America is the ONLY industrialized nation who that doesn’t believe in Climate Change but does believe in angels? I seriously doubt it.

Intelligent people from other nations view Americans as being idiots for not taking note of the aberrant weather patterns we’ve been experiencing for the past couple of decades, and I share their viewpoint.

I will, however, check out what you have to say about the Bush criminals, as promised. Thanks again for the quick response.

Well, you will not like this response. Been involved with the “Green Party” and the Sierra local and regional chapter. Have turned around the “true believers” who were sucked into thinking that industrial wind factories are RENEWABLE. First Wind (who was just sold in a scam deal to a solar public company) collects gov’t subsidies while claiming to produce electricity that is NOT delivered to the grid and is NOT provided to end users. That is FRAUD.

The Global Warming argument has become silly. The temperatures are hitting all time lows and the “Cultists” refuse to accept

that the planet is going into an ice age cycle. Those who want to argue that cooling is ALSO is attributive to CO2 are lacking rational perspective.

Horsey Change

Hello, plants make oxygen from CO2, but that is not important to them since they are already having a low oxygen level to their brain.

Here is the point. I’m on lots of lefty and green groups and read many of their posts. When they are correct, (like anti-war foreign policy) there is common ground. Even Senator Warren’s position on Wall Street is correct, but she refuses to audit the Federal Reserve.

If you only read those who AGREE with you, how can you test if your own positions are true?

Sorry Chris, your outlook argues that the threat from Artificial Intelligence will center on the whacko environmentalists anti-intellectualism first. Gee there is an upside to AI after all.

Dear Jean-Paul,

I enjoy disagreements with people who see things differently than I do, as long as they don’t immediately jump to ad hominem attacks whenever they encounter a fact they don’t like, which has often been my experience with Right Wingers and Libertarians, sadly. But, as you noted, I don’t learn anything by agreeing with the choir, so here we are.

Let me take your arguments one at a time.

With regard to the Bush criminals, my apologies for not delving further into your site. We do seem to agree that Bush was no Thomas Jefferson, although your approach is considerably farther right than mine. That said, there is so much material to comb through I’d be lying if I said I truly understand where you’re coming from. Maybe I can give you a more honest assessment after I’ve read ten or twenty more articles.

ConcerniPolar Bearng wind power (and renewables in general), I googled “First Wind Energy not delivered to consumers?” and immediately found “Renewable EnergyNot Cheap, Not “Green” – Cato Institute”. It seemed like a good place to start: a well-researched, meticulously documented article which focuses almost exclusively on why renewables are bad for business. Since Cato is funded by the Kochs, that’s not a surprise, but what amazed me (in addition to the degree to which the rhetoric was tilted to the right) was how environmental concerns were given a clear backseat to economic ones. If we humans succeed in destroying our living space, which seems likely, all talk of the expense and impracticality of renewables is moot, because we’ll all be dead. I realize the Kochs regard humanity the way you and I regard our most recent bowel movement, but the disparity in emphasis was still striking.

My wife and I have been donating 8% or so of our monthly electric bill toward financing the eventual construction of wind farms in New England. We understood from the get-go that we wouldn’t be reaping any sort of benefit from our donation for years to come, but our kids would. I’m not sure how this constitutes fraud, since we went into it with the full understanding that there would be no immediate benefit. And as far as alternative energy startups receiving a government subsidy goes, good. I’d rather have my tax dollars spent on trying to wean ourselves from the oil titty than on building more drones so Middle Eastern children can be liberated into bloody chunks.

If I may digress for a moment, I consider it a privilege to be living in America, a stroke of good fortune for which I can take absolutely NO credit whatsoever, and I therefore consider paying taxes similar to paying rent. Taxes don’t bother me at all; I’m happy to pay my fair share. I just wish I had access to something like a line item veto so I could redirect those taxes to infrastructure and fire departments and schools instead of our corporate-owned military, but until we figure out a way to remove sock-puppet politicians, that’s just not realistic.

With regard to our being in an “Ice Age Cycle”, I agree. We are. The Earth will be cooling for the next 20,000 years or so, but I doubt seriously whether humans or any other lifeStewart Hoax form will last that long. We’ve been pumping heat into our biosphere at a MUCH faster rate than Mother Nature can compensate for, which is why 2014 was the hottest year in recorded history. 2012 (or 2010, depending on which stats you’re citing) was the hottest before that. I’m not sure where you get your data with regard to temperatures hitting “all-time lows”, but I suspect whoever gave you that info was referring to weather, not climate. Right now, I’m freezing my ass off. Big picture, Earth is getting warmer, despite localized low temperatures.

Some proof:

The scientists responsible for those studies, despite your somewhat insulting reference to the “low oxygen level” in their brains, and even though they’re not shills for Big Oil, seem like they have a rational perspective.

I suspect you disagree.

We do, however, agree on many things: war is evil, Israel is a scumbag country, the Bush criminals should be indicted, tried, and convicted of war crimes, etc. I hope we can continue this discussion, despite our differences. My gut tells me we have more in common than not.

p.s. – Why the pseudonym? And are you a collective, or is only one person responsible for all that writing?

I’m a Christian existentialist and a paleo-conservative populist in the tradition of Pat Buchanan. SARTRE was selected to attack lefty commies to read the free market economy articles written for BATR. I write all articles and select the content of third party links.

If you want the America First message, BREAKING ALL THE RULES is a primary source.

Best to put the kool aide climate change absurdity aside.

If I had to guess, you live in Vermont and have friends who went to Middlebury.

Many friends in New England who has fought the industrial wind factories for over a decade.

Hitler ChristianI’m a human being who thinks entrenched political and religious viewpoints are damaging to the human spirit and the world.

And you are what I feared you were. If I don’t agree with you, I’m an absurd idiot, or something like that. So sad, since you are clearly intelligent and write well. I was truly looking forward to a spirited debate, but that obviously can’t happen, since you have no interest in any point of view other than your own. You address NONE of my arguments, but merely dismiss and insult them.

I certainly don’t have all the answers, but at least I’m not arrogant enough to presume that other people’s perspectives are inherently flawed because they don’t align with mine. And I certainly don’t need to be “tutored” by an individual as clearly narrow-minded as yourself.

The sheer size of the body of work you have amassed over the years is impressive, and, as I promised, I will spend some time on your site and read as many articles as I can before they become thoroughly redundant, as I suspect they will.

There are many good, intelligent, people in the world who vehemently disagree with your POV, Jean Paul. You have only one part of the entire truth; don’t ignore them because you’ve convinced yourself you see the whole picture. You don’t.

Have no idea how you conclude what you did.  Provided links to research. If you are looking for a debate, jump on a forum. My time is directed at providing a message that you can review, ponder and decide if correct.

Clicked links. Did further research. All three links are to organizations that advocate for the fossil fuel industry, directly or indirectly.

Lisa Linowes (a beard for the energy industry at – ed.) cites sources that have either been discredited or are linked to the Kochs.

Your time is directed at providing Right Wing propaganda.

I respectfully suggest that you are kidding yourself if you think you are being in any way objective.

But I am grateful that you provided me with my next blog entry.

But They Can’t Afford to Create Jobs . . .

2 Lil' Piggies

1)      Exxon Mobil made $19 billion in profits in 2009.  Exxon not only paid no federal income taxes, it actually received a $156 million rebate from the IRS, according to its SEC filings.

2)      Bank of America received a $1.9 billion tax refund from the IRS last year, although it made $4.4 billion in profits and received a bailout from the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department of nearly $1 trillion.

3)      Over the past five years, while General Electric made $26 billion in profits in the United States, it received a $4.1 billion refund from the IRS.

4)      Chevron received a $19 million refund from the IRS last year after it made $10 billion in profits in 2009.

5)      Boeing, which received a $30 billion contract from the Pentagon to build 179 airborne tankers, got a $124 million refund from the IRS last year.

6)      Valero Energy, the 25th largest company in America with $68 billion in sales last year received a $157 million tax refund check from the IRS and, over the past three years, it received a $134 million tax break from the oil and gas manufacturing tax deduction.

7)      Goldman Sachs in 2008 only paid 1.1 percent of its income in taxes even though it earned a profit of $2.3 billion and received an almost $800 billion from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury Department.

8)      Citigroup last year made more than $4 billion in profits but paid no federal income taxes. It received a $2.5 trillion bailout from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury.

9)      ConocoPhillips, the fifth largest oil company in the United States, made $16 billion in profits from 2007 through 2009, but received $451 million in tax breaks through the oil and gas manufacturing deduction.

10)  Over the past five years, Carnival Cruise Lines made more than $11 billion in profits, but its federal income tax rate during those years was just 1.1 percent.

Social Nitwitting

The Brady Bunch opening grid, season one

About a half an hour ago I canceled my Google+ account.  I used to be on Facebook too, for about a half an hour, until I realized that almost all the people I had “friended”, people with whom I had common interests and shared passions (when I still had passion), were people I did not actually know.  The same pattern was developing on Google’s version of “let’s all say nothing together”, but I decided to club it in the head before it could grow any uglier.

My “in the flesh” friends are not at all interested in the fact that we are rapidly descending into a third-world feudal corporatocracy, and their fascination with social networking is a little too frivolous and depressing for my taste. It’s hard for me to get excited about what kind of pancakes someone had for dinner while a fifth of American children are living in poverty and no one wants to even talk about it. In fact, I often find myself being loudly ignored and sometimes politely shunned for even bringing up such unpleasantries during nap time, which clearly is most of the time for many Americans.

These lame-brained social networking sites are as much to blame for turning America into a nation of idiots than anything else. Google, for example, prides itself on not “being evil” while they rake in billions and look the other way as .1 percent of the country turns the rest of us into slaves.  They have the means to inform millions of Americans precisely what’s being done to them and they refuse to do so.  That’s evil.

Facebook is another abomination, and could claim to be the original, online social time-waster if not for MySpace, which has, thankfully, been relegated to the internet discount rack.  Never have I encountered so many vapid, word-filled pages.  It’s like packing peanuts for the mind.  Whether it’s people’s television favorites, their favorite recipes, their favorite sports heroes, their favorite favorites, top ten lists an infinitum, what their kid excreted last night and how much, which Brady Bunch kid is the cutest, the similarity between characters on The Love Boat and characters on Gilligan’s Island, the disease of America is there for all to see, three thousand miles wide and a quarter inch deep.  It’s like a worldwide game of tag where everybody is “it”.  And about as pointless.

Just for yucks I tried Twitter too.  Oh, my sweet freakin’ lord. If Facebook dwells on useless minutia, Twitter elevates it to celebrity status and worships it like a golden poodle.

The following are actual Tweets I found on various websites.  So help me Gawd.

“I really want a baby duck, but I don’t know if I could have it in my apartment. maybe Ill get a fish, or a lightning bug. whatcha think?”

“We’re gonna revolutionize Sunday mornings y’all!”

“No, no, I didn’t go to England; I went to London”

“my new obsession is animal crackers nom nom.”

“hes not that into you because you smell like fish”

“Why is that people always try to understand estimate my intelligents?! They should never do that!”

“I’ve got a coffee stain on my new pants and I’m SOOOO upset about it.” (OK, that one I made up)

“I just took “what part of ur body will justin bieber see first?” and got: your smile!”

“Awww our sigeps made us dindin<3”

“poop i normal outside. i want it to rain, hard”

“Selena Marie Gomez. A girl who taught me to be myself. She’s a true role model. I love her. ;)”

I could go on, for days, but I just ate.  I’d recommend mercy lobotomies for these Twitterazzi droids, but apparently someone beat me to it.

Have we always been this shallow? Was there ever a time in America when people weren’t completely consumed by useless conversations, useless celebrities, and even more useless factoids?  Did we ever, as a society, concern ourselves with actual issues rather than the latest episode of Desperate Housewives or which body parts to display when ogled by a pubescent singer? Am I just a cranky, maladjusted curmudgeon because I find mindless internet babble irritating and depressing?  Am I being unreasonable to expect human beings to crave their own evolution rather than feast on junk trivia?

Smart New Boss, Same as the Old Dumb Boss

In January 2009, President of the United State...

Image via Wikipedia

There’s really not much difference between Obama and Bush, policywise.  Barack, unlike his predecessor, can put cogent sentences together without help from a scriptwriter (or a Special Ed teacher), which is nice, and he’s got a lovely family, but aside from his personal charm there is little difference between his style of violent, middle-class colon cleansing and that of the disgusting little fake Texan from Connecticut.  We are still being surveilled, but more so, we are still in Guantanamo, and Iraq, and Afghanistan, and now he’s also gotten us into Libya and Syria. And those are just the wars we KNOW of.  The CIA torturers Barry exonerated are likely at work, as you read this, stirring up their special brand of imperialist mischief in whichever third world country we’ve yet to exploit fully.  There is still no universal health care, or even the Public Option he promised during his eloquent presidential campaign.  Obama gave trillions to his rich buddies, just like Bush did, and did absolutely nothing while people lost their homes. He hasn’t done anything to prosecute the Banksters responsible for the foreclosures, and in fact has stood around speechifying while they shower themselves in billion-dollar bonuses and bask in the Bush tax breaks Mr. Obama refused to let expire. Not only did he let British Petroleum slide when they killed eleven men and destroyed the economy and ecology of the Gulf of Mexico, he’s allowing them to renege on their promised damage payments.  He has also just OK’d Shell Oil drilling in the Arctic, without even bothering to oversee their drilling plans.  Obama is STILL pushing nuclear power, even after Fukushima.  In short, Barack Obama is Bush Dark, another wholly owned corporate lackey who does as he is told whenever they tell him to do it.

Did he inherit a huge, steaming pile of about-to-collapse economy and illegal invasion?  Yes he did.  And he’s done exactly nothing to fix any of those problems except in token, ineffective ways.  Bending over to please a bunch of Neo-Fascist Republicans in the name of “bipartisan cooperation” is useless and cowardly. It’s on a par with Pelosi declaring impeachment “off the table”.  Any of you “Progressives” out there who still think Obama is on your side need to pop your head out of your sphincter and realize he never was.  You should have realized that as soon as he was declared a “top tier” candidate.  No one gets there without the approval of the Big Boys. Progressives like Kucinich and Gravel get ridiculed and dismissed early in the phony dog-and-pony show that is our election process. Every one of the men or women left standing is a corporate shill, you can take it to the bank. Their bank, very likely, because they own most of them.

Palin couldn’t possibly be that much worse, and that “deer in the headlights” expression whenever anyone asks her a non-scripted question is priceless.  I say bring’ er on.  She really can’t fuck things up much worse than they already are, and besides, Tina Fey could entertain us all with at least another four years of comedy gold as she mines Sarah’s boo boos. And all of John McCain‘s friends could pound their walkers while they stare at them.

Bachmann is a riot too.  I’d love to see the confusion and panic in those wildly unfocused eyes when the corporatists who really run this place give her her marching orders.  I wonder if she’ll be submissive.

Perry strikes me as Bush with better hair. He wears his sleaziness like a badge of honor, and his stolen election will probably get this whole end-of-the-empire thing moving much, much quicker. If we’re REALLY lucky, he’ll follow through with his plan to have Texas secede from the Union and we can start printing school textbooks that are reality based once again.  Then Crawford will no longer be part of the United States and then the World Court can extradite Bush and try him for war crimes since the CIA won’t be protecting him anymore!

But hey, I’m a dreamer . . .

All three of these corporate stooges believe that the world was created in seven days, and that climate change is a natural occurrence which has nothing whatsoever to do with all the carbon we’ve been crapping into the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution, and that Evolution is a theory that should be taught alongside Creationism in Science class.  They also think Armageddon is a really swell idea and have no real problem with the world ending.

But they’re perfectly sane, apparently, and you’d be a libelous fool to state anything different.  Professor Irwin Corey and Pat Paulsen are looking better every day.

We American citizens used to be treated with dignity, regardless of our social or economic status (as long as we were White, of course), and I used to be proud of the fact that we shared that sense of personal dignity with other countries.  We don’t have any dignity anymore, because we have adapted to being treated like garbage by the men who own us.  The fact that we justify this mistreatment of human beings in any way tells me we don’t have a very high opinion of ourselves, but we revel in it, through our love of war and capital punishment and UFC.

In 2012, we have the choice of voting for an eloquent, cowardly Corporatist or any one of several other, demonstrably wacky Corporatists, yet we continue to la la la along like everything is fine, while unemployment rises, a few more trillion are hoarded by those who pay no taxes, and our infrastructure collapses around our ears, but we can’t hear it because we’re wearing iPods.

We deserve everything that’s going to happen to us.
